Wayne Surdam Joins CableLabs® as Vice President of Communications

CableLabs, the non-profit research and development consortium for the cable industry, today announced it has appointed talented technology industry veteran, Wayne Surdam, as the vice president of communications. Surdam’s hire comes after a string of organizational announcements including the hire of Phil McKinney as president and CEO and the addition of a new CableLabs’ innovation lab in Silicon Valley.

Surdam brings a wide range of experience in the enterprise, consumer and vertical markets within the personal computer, software, networking and telecommunications industries to CableLabs. He also brings extensive international experience, expanding companies into Europe, Asia Pacific and South Asia; including the rebuild of Hewlett-Packard’s (HP) global public relations program and management of its global customer advisory councils.

“In joining the strong leadership at CableLabs I am eager to help fuse long-lasting relationships and partnerships between the cable and broader technology industries – bringing together key industry stakeholders and thought leaders to cultivate new and innovative ideas,” said Surdam. “With CableLabs’ mission to act as the catalyst for quicker innovation, this is a pivotal time for the organization and I am looking forward to contributing to its success; especially in its Silicon Valley growth.”

“Surdam is an extremely talented and experienced executive with a proven track record that complements and strengthens our leadership team at CableLabs,” said Phil McKinney, CEO of CableLabs. “His strong relationships within the tech community in Silicon Valley, paired with his past successes and expertise, will play a key role in aiding CableLabs through its next phase of driving co-innovation for cable technology outside of the box.”

Prior to joining CableLabs, Surdam served as the vice president of HP’s media and influencer relations for the personal systems group. Surdam also held the position of vice president of strategic marketing and alliances for the carrier network group at Alcatel. Prior to Alcatel, Surdam was the vice president of marketing at Newbridge Networks where he effectively positioned the company for acquisition by Alcatel. Earlier in his career, Surdam was a director of marketing of IOS technologies and software initiatives at Cisco Systems and held the position of senior director of the power Macintosh division at Apple Computer, Inc.

They are not optimized for low- or battery-powered devices or for IoT applications with infrequently transmitted data. Cell IoT modules that support narrow-band IoT and 4G cell networks will enable cell connectivity, device management, and app enablement for low-power wide-area network IoT. B...
