Elemental Technologies, the leading supplier of software-defined video solutions for multiscreen content delivery, today announced that it is named as a technology enabler to the BBC and Turner Sports, both of whom were designated finalists for the IBC 2014 Innovation Awards shortlist issued this week. Elemental video processing is powering both the NBA League Pass streaming subscription service from Turner Sports and the Media Factory cloud transcoding service at the heart of the BBC iPlayer catch-up and video-on-demand service.

The NBA League Pass is a subscription service innovated by Turner Sports that delivers any basketball game over broadband to any subscriber on any platform: Apple, Android, desktop, games consoles, Roku and more. Turner Sports now has a platform that can deliver every NBA game over broadband to any subscriber. This translates to as many as 30 games a night or more than 800 live streams.
Regarded worldwide as the most successful online service from a broadcaster, the BBC iPlayer delivers content to more than seven million users a day on four screens and over 1,000 devices. In 2013, BBC Future Media created a powerful, flexible and secure cloud transcoding service that ensures audiences have more content in better quality, available faster and more reliably.
“The IBC Innovation awards uniquely showcase real-world applications with tangible benefits to end-users,” said Keith Wymbs, chief marketing officer at Elemental. “We are honored to be named amongst the technologies that support two highly regarded and successful multiscreen offerings and that serve customers through innovation.”
Award winners will be announced at a ceremony to be held on September 14 during IBC 2014 in Amsterdam.
At this year’s IBC show (Sept. 11-16 in Amsterdam), Elemental will demonstrate its software-defined video processing platform for content delivery to any device in Hall 4 on stand 4.B75 at the RAI Conference Centre. Software solutions from Elemental give pay TV operators, content programmers, broadcasters and enterprise customers the ability to implement flexible and scalable video architectures for both traditional broadcast and multiscreen service offerings.
