American Kids Try to Break Guinness World Record

Over two million students expected for the largest online math competition

NEW YORK, Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Children all over the US are preparing to join over a million students from across the world and break the Guinness World Record for the largest online math competition during World Math Day on March 3.

World Math Day is the world's largest education event where students compete in real time against other students internationally using the World Math Day website. The event encourages students of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to have a go at math in a fun and interactive way. Participation is free - all you need is internet access.

Peter Walters, CEO of 3P Learning, the creator and host of the annual event, said, "This year we're attempting to set a Guinness World Record(TM) for the Largest Online Math Competition. With over two million students from 227 countries registered and practicing online, we're well on our way.

"In 2009, close to two million students from 204 countries correctly answered 452,681,681 questions. We're encouraging students and schools to register, start practicing, and help us beat last year's record," Walters continued.

By February 22, over 212 million questions were answered correctly by students from more than 29,000 schools who have registered.

Exciting changes this year include a new format with multi-levels for all age groups. For the first time, teachers and parents are invited to participate. Participants can also take part in World Math Day from their iPhone and iPod Touch. The World Math Day mobile app is free on iTunes.

Walters continued, "Whether you're organizing a school event, taking part at home, or on your iPhone or iPod Touch, World Math Day is an exciting way to get involved in math. Visit www.worldmathday.com to register, and get practicing!"

For the third year, Cartoon Network, the leading kids television channel, is lending its support in promoting the event and encouraging kids to participate.

3P Learning is supporting UNICEF by promoting their educational programs through the World Math Day 2010 website, and making a donation of $50,000.

World Math Day is powered by Mathletics, the learning platform from 3P Learning, the global leader in online mathematics education for school-aged students.

Successful transformation requires a laser focus on being data-driven and on using all the tools available that enable transformation if they plan to survive over the long term. Where many organizations get into trouble, however, is that they try to have a broad and deep knowledge in each of these areas. This is a huge blow to an organization's productivity. By automating or outsourcing some of these pieces, such as databases, infrastructure, and networks, your team can instead focus on development, testing, and deployment. Further, organizations that focus their attention on these areas can eventually move to a test-driven development structure that condenses several l...
The term "digital transformation" (DX) is being used by everyone for just about any company initiative that involves technology, the web, ecommerce, software, or even customer experience. While the term has certainly turned into a buzzword with a lot of hype, the transition to a more connected, digital world is real and comes with real challenges. In his opening keynote, Four Essentials To Become DX Hero Status Now, Jonathan Hoppe, Co-Founder and CTO of Total Uptime Technologies, shared that ...
Over the course of two days, in addition to insightful conversations and presentations delving into the industry's current pressing challenges, there was considerable buzz about digital transformation and how it is enabling global enterprises to accelerate business growth. Blockchain has been a term that people hear but don't quite understand. The most common myths about blockchain include the assumption that it is private, or that there is only one blockchain, and the idea that blockchain is...
Never mind that we might not know what the future holds for cryptocurrencies and how much values will fluctuate or even how the process of mining a coin could cost as much as the value of the coin itself - cryptocurrency mining is a hot industry and shows no signs of slowing down. However, energy consumption to mine cryptocurrency is one of the biggest issues facing this industry. Burning huge amounts of electricity isn't incidental to cryptocurrency, it's basically embedded in the core of "mini...
Every organization is facing their own Digital Transformation as they attempt to stay ahead of the competition, or worse, just keep up. Each new opportunity, whether embracing machine learning, IoT, or a cloud migration, seems to bring new development, deployment, and management models. The results are more diverse and federated computing models than any time in our history.
