New Media on Ulitzer

Last Friday morning I was browsing through my "High School Friends Group" messages and I asked them if anyone would be in town over the weekend. When I received a "yes" back I took the Friday night flight to Istanbul. My reunions with my close-knit group of friends are always short, usually a Saturday night dinner on the Bosphorus and back to work Monday morning.

This weekend's trip was one of those. I happened to be on the same flight with Levent, one of the most successful CEOs in the country. Most of the kids from 30 years ago either decided to run companies or the country. If they are not doing one of those two jobs, they are generally PhDs. Levent's driver dropped me off at the Bebek Hotel at 11 am on Saturday. I slept most of the day after the red-eye from New York to Istanbul. I opened my eyes at 7:30 pm, walked down the block to Poseidon Fish Restaurant, asked for a table for one, and ordered my raki, lakerda, feta cheese, melon, and grilled Lagos.

As I was tweeting about my arrival to the restaurant, a shadow appeared over my reading glasses and stopped next to me. It was John, a top corporate attorney in town, who was having dinner with his wife Belkis, the CEO of a French company.

What a small world! I tweeted and moved my meze and raki to their table.

Belkis told me it was Vasif's birthday that day. She called him and we invited ourselves to Vasif's to celebrate. He builds skyscrapers in Moskow for a living, and his wife Bahar has a PhD from the top architechture school in Germany.

I left their home in Etiler  around midnight.

I took a cab back to the hotel. I realized that it was only about 5 pm in New York so I asked my cabbie to take me to Arnavutkoy to grab a bowl of ishkembe chorbasi. My driver Ismail joined me for soup.

Anyway, the purpose of this blog entry is not my travels but rather my comments on recent Tweets I am following.

The people I follow include Pat McGovern @pathere, Alan Meckler @alanmeckler, David Nussbaum @Dnussbaum, Robert Priest-Heck @bpriestheck, and Ted Bahr @tedbahr.

At first I did not understand "pathere," but Roger Strukhoff explained that it means "Pat Here"

Meckler is an enthusiastic, busy tweeter, who likes to write about his next big trade show. With two big ones under his belt, Internetworld and the Search Engine Strategies, he looks more than ready for another kill.

David, whom I respect a lot,  likes to talk about the print media; it makes me feel like watching black and white classics.

Bob Priest-Heck I don't think has ever tweeted yet.

And Ted Bahr has lots of breaking news from the industry. Ted and David should start a group, or go out once in a while for a beer and talk about the resurrection of print media, which will not happen folks! Especially in tech print media? Bloggers do not need paper or print magazines anymore unless I am reading Ted wrong. Let's move on! Alan Meckler has the right idea with all these experiments he is doing here. The future is what I like to call "new media," which is our Ulitzer.

Ulitzer is the new "new media" and the Ulitzer Live! Event is the conference for the new media. Ulitzer Live! covers each and every subject in Alan's portfolio of conferences and events on this page.

@tedbahr - "And just what AM I going to do with an #iPad. Dunno yet, but ordered one. Damn you Apple!"

Teeedddd, you should remove that tweet before announcing your iPad conference :- ) Either your comment or your event does not look sincere.

@tedbahr - "Tech Target is a struggling business. Online media businesses beware. Here are their latest results: http://bit.ly/beW4Zy."

Well, online media businesses should beware. Media moved on to "new media" and TechTarget's media technology is last century.
