Kyte Launches Support for the iPad

Single media API for iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch

iPad Session at Cloud Expo

Kyte, the online, mobile and social video platform for live and on-demand content, on Wednesday announced an SDK for developing Kyte-powered iPad apps for distribution through the Apple iTunes App Store, as well as web-based support for the iPad through a new, universal embed code that outputs HTML5 video.

The new SDK and HTML5 support provides media companies and marketers with the flexibility and choice to build native iPad applications, or extend compatibility of their new or existing Kyte-powered websites to the iPad.

Greatly reducing the time, cost and complexity of building interactive video applications, the Kyte iPad SDK allows organizations to focus on creating great user experiences without worrying about media optimization, complex communication protocols or the need to build server-side components.

“Representing the next phase in media delivery and Internet connected devices, the iPad is a platform every video publisher needs to plan for,” said Gannon Hall, COO, Kyte. “Kyte has long been focused on delivering innovative, forward looking functionality that gives video publishers the ability to reach and engage audiences no matter where they are. Our support for HTML5 and our release of an SDK for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch is the next step in this progression.”

Kyte is quickly becoming the 360° platform of choice for organizations that want to reach consumers with live and on-demand video across multiple platforms and devices. In addition to its robust online video platform, Kyte gives organizations the ability to add social and interactive capabilities to video content and to natively distribute that content across the iPad, iPhone/iPod Touch, BlackBerry, Android and Nokia platforms. Kyte also offers enterprise-class content management, moderation and analytics and offers monetization through built-in integration with leading ad platforms.

Additional key features of the Kyte SDK for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch include:

  • Binary API that delivers video, pictures, and audio optimized for the user's connectivity
  • Single media API for iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch
  • Simple methods to integrate multimedia chat, comment threads, and ratings for all media
  • Additional APIs to build modules such as an RSS reader, Twitter reader, downloads and location-aware events
  • Real-time notifications update the application when new content is available
