Anti-Cyberbullying App, STOPit, Signs Seven Schools

Mobile Platform Will Provide Bully Protection for Students

NEW YORK, March 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- STOPit, a mobile app that allows victims and witnesses of cyberbullying to anonymously report incidents, which launched in January, announced that the platform has signed up three schools in the Kenilworth school district in Kenilworth, N.J.; three schools in the Somerset Academy Charter network in Jacksonville, Fla.; and Saint Denis School , a private school located in Manasquan, NJ.

One in six teenagers report being bullied via social media in the last year and 95 percent of media-using teens say they have witnessed it. The STOPit platform empowers children that have been exposed to cyberbullying, whether as a victim or bystander, to anonymously and securely take immediate action.

"The response we have received from schools around the country has been amazing," stated Todd Schobel, President of STOPit"It's a testament to our approach and shows the dedication educators have for protecting our children. We look forward to working with the schools to implement their programs and stop cyberbullying."

With Instagram, Facebook, SnapChat, Twitter and additional social media platforms putting children at risk, the STOPit platform takes a four-pronged approach to put a halt to cyberbullying using various fully customizable features for each individual child. These functionalities consist of The STOPit button: "Stand Tall Tell All," The HELPit button: "A Shoulder to Lean On," The FRIENDit button: "Always Anonymous Upstander," and the The REPORTit button: "Secure Protection."

"As we hear so often in the news, it's unfortunate that at times technology is used to inflict pain upon others," says Father Ed Blanchett, Pastor, Saint Denis School.  "It is truly inspiring to have a tool that, as quickly as digital means can be used for harm, this can be put to use for good: bringing loving support and encouragement at exactly the time it is most needed."

STOPit also has an individual version of the app so students and parents can get the protection and resources they need when in crisis. This version is available for both Android and iOS. All seven schools expect the platform to be fully implemented over the next 90 days.

"Over the past few years we have noticed a growing trend of students being on social media at a young age and have been concerned with the unmonitored and unfiltered platforms," stated LaVerne Randolph, Human Resources, Somerset Academy Charter. "We can't wait to get the platform fully unrolled into our school system, as we will be able to help and guide our children through their adoption of technology."
