Open up your Amazon S3 Account with OpenS3 !

OpenS3There have been lots of talk about cloud services but the oldest and one of the best is probably Amazon S3 which provides large amounts of free storage.  With one catch - it really only provides an API to interact with its bucket structure.  This has led to many tools such as Jungle Disk, Bucket Explorer etc which are OK but restrict you to your PC and have their own foibles.

Now, I have been using Amazon S3 with two accounts.  One I registered myself with Amazon S3 which gives me my own keys to plug into a tool that allows me to upload, and there are many, and another that I don't get the keys for but which I know is hosted on S3 because they tell me. This is with SMEStorage.

Now, where it gets interesting is that SMEStorage just announced a new initiative called OpenS3 which allows you to use your Amazon Account with their platform. Why is this exciting ? Well firstly you get to interact with your Amazon S3 files in a very nice Windows type explorer within your web browser in which you can tag files, put them in directories, share them etc, just like a normal file system.  Secondly you can use all their other access channels, such as the iPhone web app, Facebook, iGoogle etc to access your files. Now this is great because it really opens up when you can get access to your data.

SMEStorage Browser

Also from the main web application platform you can open up and edit office documents in Zoho, play MP3's through the browser, view and edit pictures, share files, collaborate on business groups - well you get the idea. Oh, and you can backup all your email accounts through the platform directly to S3 and because it supports versioning an files with the same filename are automatically versioned with date and timestamp.

Now this opens up lots of options. I can back up my several email accounts and then access anything within them through my Iphone whilst on the move.....I'm looking forward to where these cloud services and strategies end up.

Machine learning has taken residence at our cities' cores and now we can finally have "smart cities." Cities are a collection of buildings made to provide the structure and safety necessary for people to function, create and survive. Buildings are a pool of ever-changing performance data from large automated systems such as heating and cooling to the people that live and work within them. Through machine learning, buildings can optimize performance, reduce costs, and improve occupant comfort by ...

IoT is rapidly becoming mainstream as more and more investments are made into the platforms and technology. As this movement continues to expand and gain momentum it creates a massive wall of noise that can be difficult to sift through. Unfortunately, this inevitably makes IoT less approachable for people to get started with and can hamper efforts to integrate this key technology into your own portfolio. There are so many connected products already in place today with many hundreds more on the h...

Digital Transformation is much more than a buzzword. The radical shift to digital mechanisms for almost every process is evident across all industries and verticals.
